The Ghanaian social media community and fans of comedic content were deeply
moved this weekend as TikTok creator Osanju (also known as Mr.
Sanjus or Elvis Frimpong) was laid to rest in a ceremony marked by tears,
tribute, and fulfillment of his final wishes.
Osanju passed away on 1 September 2025, after a prolonged
battle with leukemia, a condition he had publicly discussed and documented on
his platforms. In April of 2025, he shared distressing updates about his
health, including issues with blood clotting, which many viewed as signs his
condition was worsening.
His funeral took place on 4 October 2025, in his hometown
of Atwima Koforidua, Eastern Region. The service drew hundreds of mourners family,
fans, friends, and colleagues who came to pay their respects and bid him a
final goodbye.
One of the most striking features of the burial was the white coffin
adorned with Barcelona stickers, a gesture arranged to honour Osanju’s
intense fandom for the Spanish football club. It was reportedly one of his last
wishes to be “sent off with his favourite team” and those close to him ensured
it was fulfilled.
At the funeral, there was a poignant moment as Osanju’s father, known as
Agya K, was seen in tears, overcome by grief as he spoke to his late son. Many
observers noted how the father’s anguish underscored the heavy loss the family
has endured.
In social media and media commentary in the aftermath, some rumors had
circulated that Osanju’s death was triggered by the stressful result of a
recent Barcelona match (a draw with Rayo Vallecano). However, family members
have firmly denied such claims, clarifying that his cause of death was cancer,
not a sudden shock from a game outcome.
His passing leaves a void in Ghana’s content-creation space. Known for his
humorous videos, candidness about his health struggles, and resilience in the
face of adversity, Osanju had amassed over 1 million followers on TikTok and
tens of thousands more on other social platforms.
